ADVANCED SYSTEMS CONCEPTS ANNOUNCES ACTIVEBATCH™ VERSION 3.0
Enterprise Job Management and Scheduling System Allows Customers to Schedule and Process Non-Interactive Jobs on a Network or a Stand Alone Basis
HOBOKEN, NJ (June 3, 2000)—Advanced Systems Concepts, Inc., a leading developer of System Management and production software systems, today announced ActiveBatch Version 3.0. ActiveBatch, the advanced fully distributed Job Management and Scheduling System, supports the reliable execution of batch jobs and streams across a heterogeneous set of platforms, including NT, UNIX and OpenVMS. ActiveBatch will take Enterprise job management and scheduling into the next century to fulfill critical production computing needs.
“Many essential jobs are time consuming and can best be accomplished non-interactively,” said Jim Manias, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Advanced Systems Concepts. “Robust batch processing systems are the best way to ensure interrelated jobs can be completed to make the greatest use of your computing investment and time. ActiveBatch’s highly scaleable queuing architecture allows for optimal workload balancing and performance to make the most effective use of customers investment in powerful server machines. ActiveBatch is a complete system available to meet today and tomorrow’s job scheduling needs.”
ActiveBatch is extremely easy-to-use with a GUI interface that offers both novice and expert views. The Queue and Job Wizards make it easy to prepare jobs for scheduling and execution. As ActiveBatch is script language independent it can also be used to submit jobs via languages like XLNT, Perl, VBScript, Java and BAT (CMD). A Microsoft Management Console snap-in is provided for improved administration of the company’s production environment.
ActiveBatch’s feature rich scheduling system allows jobs to be triggered for execution using a date/time-based calendar, and/or on an event basis. Now jobs can be scheduled ad-hoc, on a recurring basis using definitions like the first Tuesday of the month, etc. ActiveBatch’s powerful Event Scheduling is a highly efficient approach to submitting jobs for execution by making extensive use of defined WMI (WBEM) event information. These jobs, triggered by events, can be run without “looping” to preserve valuable system resources. For example, temporary files can be deleted when free disk space falls below “10%” or a job can be triggered to run when a new file is created in a specified directory. Job Dependencies are an essential component for a production batch system. Jobs can easily be started and submitted based upon the results and status of previously submitted jobs.
ActiveBatch Version 3.0 also features a Runbook View, allowing all batch jobs, including those scheduled, executing and completed, to be recorded and examined. Job History and Logging assures that all aspects of a job are audited, from submission to completion, and features the centralized management of job logs. Jobs can be monitored for possible failure based upon both Elapsed Time and CPU time, and alert and/or aborts can be specified. ActiveBatch also allows language independent user checkpointing and job restart in the event of a system crash. Microsoft Cluster Server can further direct jobs to be restarted on the surviving system.
ActiveBatch can submit a job for execution on Windows 2000/NT, UNIX and OpenVMS systems (additional implementations are planned), and the use of the Microsoft COM interface allows embedded access for a growing number of applications. Any ActiveX Scripting Language can directly access ActiveBatch facilities.
ActiveBatch uses the Windows NT security model for both queues and jobs, allowing administrators to specify permissions which indicate the users or groups that can submit to specific queues (or no queue at all). ActiveBatch through its implementation of Generic and Execution Batch Queues allows for optimum workload balancing and performance.
ActiveBatch software will be available for download through the Advanced Systems Concepts Web site atwww.advsyscon.com for evaluation and purchase in March 2000. ActiveBatch is available in the Advanced Server (fully networked) as well as the Professional Edition (for standalone processing). Client Licenses will be available at no additional charge. ActiveBatch supports Windows NT 4.0 in addition to Windows 9x and 2000 systems.
