ActiveBatch™ V3 Job Scheduling and Management System Now Available For Download

World Class Enterprise System for Windows 2000/NT, UNIX and OpenVMS

HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY – November 14, 2000 – Advanced System Concepts, Inc., a leading developer of strategic system software solutions that enhance Windows 2000/NT, UNIX and OpenVMS systems, today announced the availability of ActiveBatch version 3. ActiveBatch is an affordable Enterprise Job Scheduling and Management system, which was designed for Windows 2000/NT and supports the reliable execution of jobs and programs on multiple operating systems including various Unix platforms and OpenVMS. The product can be downloaded from the Advanced System Concepts web site at http://www.advsyscon.com/.

"Version 3 offers enormous scheduling flexibility and capability," said Jim Manias, Vice President of Advanced System Concepts, Inc. "If you can say it, we can schedule it, whether it’s a job that you want to run every other Tuesday, the last Saturday of the year or to make specific events actionable. This is our most robust scheduling product yet, and its cross-platform compatibility, extensibility and affordability make it the preferred solution for any installation."

ActiveBatch supports the full implementation of Microsoft's Window Management Instrumentation (WMI) as a basis for improved system and applications management in Windows. WMI is Microsoft's implementation of WEBM as defined by the Industry DTMF Task Force, comprised of most major computer manufacturers. ActiveBatch's use of WMI for event based scheduling of hardware, software or application events, including ActiveBatch, is an excellent approach in monitoring and addressing issues as they occur to ensure appropriate actions are initiated and completed by the system. For example, when the free space on the server falls below a specified amount, a job can be automatically run to clean up and delete identified files.

ActiveBatch's scaleable architecture allows systems to be easily added to meet increasing demand and manage workloads. ActiveBatch's Virtual Queuing automatically selects the system best suited to execute a specific job, based upon the job's run time characteristics and current machine utilization.

ActiveBatch supports the concept of "third-party" jobs. With ActiveBatch a batch job can be submitted, for example, under the Administrator’s credentials and one or more users or groups can be designated to trigger execution of that job. Using ActiveBatch an Administrator can associate their rights with the running of that specific job without requiring any further actions.

ActiveBatch includes an alerting system, which provides notification when a job fails, succeeds, or on specific actions. The product supports job dependencies, making the running of jobs conditional upon the status and/or condition of other jobs or programs. With ActiveBatch's cross platform capability, job dependencies can exist across a variety of systems.

ActiveBatch supports a range of new features designed to automate the management and scheduling of jobs. Among these are ActiveBatch's powerful broadcast capabilities making transparent "updates" to any or all systems whenever they re-connect to the network. ActiveBatch implements a variety of Client interfaces to ensure the appropriate interface for each user. They include a windowed application interface, for flexibility and speed, a command line for administrative users, support of the Microsoft Management Console Snap-in for managing critical system administration information, as well as a COM based interface ideally suited for developers and script writers. Using COM, all object oriented programming languages, such as VBScript, Java, etc. can now be utilized to build ASP or web-enabled applications. Each of the Client interfaces are available at no additional cost with the purchase of an ActiveBatch Product Edition and may be deployed on any number of systems.
