File Handling

Files can exist in the NEW, TEMP, and PERManent domains. File equations are supported as are group and account qualifications.

With the DEV= option on the file equate (or FOPEN), printers have full support and other devices, depending on their nature, have limited support.

The following is a partial list of supported file intrinsics:

Intrinsic Comments
FCONTROL Options 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 15, 23, 24, 25, 34, 36 (odd and even only), 39, 40, 41, 43, 45, 46, 47, and 48.
FFILEINFO Most common options
FOPEN/HPFOPEN Some parameters are not supported (they are ignored). These parameters are:
  • Form
  • Message
  • Blocking Factor
  • Num Buffers
  • Filesize
  • Num Extents
  • Initial Allocation
Only Standard and Message (MSG) files may be opened with FOPEN. CIR and RIO files are not supported.

Process Handling

Process handling via CREATE, CREATEPROCESS, ACTIVATE, and SUSPEND is supported.
