Let Sector7 Migrate Your Application
Sector7's Migration Factory
If you don't have the resources or skills in-house to re-host your applications, we offer our experience of successfully managing large projects, a demonstrated ability to manage resources from different organizations and superior technical skills to provide a solution for you.
We place great value on our well-defined process, strong project management, technical leadership and emphasis on testing. Before embarking on a significant re-hosting project, an organization must be aware of potentially significant challenges in project management and project implementation. Lack of re-hosting experience may cause these challenges only to become apparent in the middle of a re-hosting project.
However, when expected and planned these challenges become opportunities for organizations to learn, grow, and improve. Compatible compilers, porting experience and porting/migration/emulation tools provide the solution for the obvious technical problems when moving from one operating platform to another. Technical problems, while important, are only part of a business-critical re-hosting project.
Because a complex porting project can go through many unique phases, specialists with expert skills can be moved in and out of a project as required by the project plan. This provides an incredible advantage, because these specialists are brought into the project at precisely the right time to perform tasks that require their expertise. This enables us to leverage particular skills across a number of projects to keep each project moving on schedule, while minimizing costs for each individual project. This ‘just-in-time’ concept is very similar to today’s modern manufacturing plants and is the origin of the term, “The Migration Factory.”
The result of the successful Migration Factory is unprecedented productivity, which allows us to compete effectively against the cost of offshore labor, while retaining the obvious advantages of work performed in the USA and Europe.
Who does what and where?
Being solution based, we have no preferred resourcing model, and are flexible enough to accommodate the needs of our clients, and their requirements. Every migration project that we work on is different. Performing the migration of an application in a void - where we take the code, migrate it and hand it back without any client involvement at all is probably least preferred; it places a great deal of risk on both sides of the equation.
We can, and have supported many different resourcing models throughout all of the re-hosting projects that we have been involved with. From tools supply through to total outsourcing of the project, we encourage and welcome as much client participation as possible, because it ensures that there is adequate knowledge transfer both ways, and that our client's engineers retain ‘ownership’ of the migrated applications.
Our ideal approach is to build a team utilizing key representatives from the client that covers domain expertise as well as project management representation. The major benefit to this approach will ensure a seamless transition to the new environment. The team of Sector7 and client personnel can provide the blend of skills and experience needed for a successful project. Each organization’s strengths, when coordinated as a team on the project, can assure success. This cost-efficient approach can take advantage of the client's knowledge of the applications and allows us to provide its best-in-class migration services. In addition, it is good practice to have testing developed and performed independently from the project team.
With regard to location, we can perform the migration at our site; locate the team at your site, or a combination of both - obviously cost considerations have to be made if the entire team is to be located at your own facilities.
Our 5-Step Process
Utilizing our 5-Step process (refined over the years during many successful projects) we are in a position to consider the opportunity to re-host anything to anywhere, regardless of technologies, source and target platforms. This process encompasses all aspects of an application re-hosting project from the initial assessment where we determine schedule, cost and risk through to deployment. Each step is designed to ensure a successful outcome to an application re-hosting project.
