The Sector7 Stage One Assessment provides a sound beginning for a successful migration.
Cost: Contact Sector7.
Process: Migration Assessment.
Description: The entire environment is reviewed for porting to the desired platform. Sector7 will review the software components such as; language, databases, user interfaces, communications and third party software.
Objective: Provide an initial assessment to determine the rough order of magnitude of price and duration for a project. Typically, we can provide an estimate to within ±30%. This stage determines the project scope.
Time-Line
The Stage One Assessment process cannot be rushed due to the inter-dependencies
of certain elements of the process. Shown below is an outline indication
of the expected time taken for each element based on previous experience.
Due to the fact that no migration projects are the same, and possible geographical/time-zone
differences, these should be used for guidance only. Time shown is measured
in units of working days.
Non-Disclosure
Agreement
Prior to any investigation of client code, all parties that will have
access to client-confidential information for the purposes of the Stage One
Assessment and any subsequent work, should complete the Sector7 Non-Disclosure
Agreement. This is to provide mutual protection of the interests of all parties
involved.
Objective: All parties involved should complete the Sector7 Non-Disclosure Agreement.
Pre-Assessment
Questionnaire
Prior
to a Stage One Assessment, it is important that we have some indication as
to the type of environment in which the client is working. Not only is this
so that we can plan accordingly for the Stage One Assessment, but also to
allow us the ability to prepare a Statement of Work appropriate to that particular
client. It is not necessary for the client to complete all of the questions,
but obviously the more accurate the information is that we have, the better
the output of the Stage One Assessment.
Objective: The client should complete as much of the Sector7 Stage One Pre-Assessment Questionnaire as possible/appropriate and return it to Sector7. The sooner this is done, the sooner we can move onto the next stage.
Prerequisite: Completed Sector7 Non-Disclosure Agreement.
Source
Code Analysis
It
is important that, prior to the Site Visit, Assessment Engineers have
access to all of the source code to the application(s) to be migrated.
This allows Sector7 the opportunity to use automated scanning tools to
assess the complexity of the code, and to identify any/all uses of platform
dependant code/functionality. Used in conjunction with the Pre-Assessment
Questionnaire, Sector7's Assessment Engineers can then complete the planning
of the Site Visit.
Objective: The client should supply all of the application source code to Sector7. The sooner this is done, the sooner the project moves forward.
Prerequisite: Completed Pre-Assessment Questionnaire.
Statement
of Work
A SOW will
be prepared by Sector7 for the Stage One Assessment. The SOW will describe
the tasks and deliverables that should be expected.
Objective: Supply the client with a Statement of Work for a Stage One Assessment to be performed by Sector7.
Site
Visit
In
order to provide an accurate review of the clients working environment,
it will be necessary for a Sector7 Migration Assessment Engineer to visit
the clients site to gather information from both their commercial and
technical staff. Prior to the visit, the Sector7 Migration Assessment Engineer
will prepare a Site Visit Agenda.
Objective: For the Sector7 Migration Assessment Engineer to prepare an agenda for the site visit, collect technical details of the current environment, collect code on media for analysis at Sector7s premises, set client expectations for delivery of our analysis
Prerequisite: The site visit cannot be scheduled until the Pre-Assessment Questionnaire has been returned to Sector7, a Purchase Order referring to the Stage One Assessment Statement of Work has been supplied and the Site Visit Agenda has been agreed upon by all parties.
Tasks
During
the site visit, the Sector7 Migration Assessment Engineer will perform the
tasks necessary to correctly evaluate the clients current environment
as required for the purposes of the Stage One Assessment. Tasks include, but
are not limited to:
Objective: For the Sector7 Migration Assessment Engineer to gather sufficient information to facilitate production of the Stage One Assessment Report, associated Project Plan and Statement of Work.
Sector7
Deliverable
The
Stage One Assessment Report describes the findings subsequent to the analysis/review
of the client's current environment and what approach is recommended for the
migration of the application. The report incorporates the following information:
Included with the Stage One Assessment Report is a high level project plan detailing:
Also included will be a Statement of Work for the Stage Two Assessment and Migration. The SOW will be based on the analysis from the Stage One Assessment, and will describe the following:
Objective: For Sector7 to supply a Stage One Assessment Report and associated documentation sufficient for the client to make a decision to move forward to a Stage Two Assessment.
Presentation
At
this point we prepare a presentation based around these deliverables, and
present the report to the client.
Objective: To present to the client the proposed solution that has been put together as a result of the information gathered during the Stage One Assessment.
Prerequisite: The Sector7 Stage One Assessment Report and associated documentation.
