This organization operates a trading environment used by subscribing brokers to offer unlisted securities over-the-counter (OTC) by providing an electronic forum to offer shares to the broker community, and to report the execution of trades for public dissemination as required by federal law. In doing so, they fill the same role in the OTC marketplace that the seven US stock exchanges, linked by SIAC, fill for the listed marketplace. In order to fulfill this responsibility, a number of automated systems have been put in place to meet the demand for oversight in a rapidly growing marketplace.

Several years ago, the company realized that their existing systems, based on SUN UE10000 Solaris systems, were failing to demonstrate the capacity for projected increased growth and provide adequate reliability. The Sequent NUMA-Q platform, running DYNIX/ptx, was selected to provide the required growth capacity.

The company engaged IBM in 2001 to migrate applications to the Sequent NUMA-Q platform as part of the purchase by NASD of a series of NUMA-Q processors. IBM then engaged Sector7 to provide an assessment and methodology for completing the migration in the shortest possible time. A facilities management company has also been engaged to assume the day-today responsibility of operating their data center facility.

Sector7 completed the migration to the IBM platform in less than two months. The new servers have delivered a more scalable and reliable environment.
